Jia Ji: How to Run a Game Jam

Jia Ji just wrote an amusing and informative article about how to run a game jam — in this case, it’s a post mortem of the IGDA Health Games Challenge site in Pittsburgh a few weeks ago. I get asked often, “How do I run a game jam?” Jia’s article is good, covering not just how you get good games out of your event, but also sponsorship and leadership. Check it out!

Interesting article. Some useful tips in there too, if I were to ever run a game jam again. I did run a Global Game Jam location earlier this year, but it didn’t have nearly as many nice touches as that one did. No food provided, no t-shirts, no sponsors. Just 50 game devs and a room full of computers.

So I’ll keep this article in mind and refer back to it next time.
