What’s next for me

February 5, 2014 was my last day working at Bocoup. Leaving was my decision, and was entirely amicable: I’d been there three years and felt I’d learned a lot, and that it was time to flex my development muscles in other contexts. I wish my former coworkers nothing but the best.

So what’s next for me?

Feb/Mar/Apr

I’m taking it kind of easy for for the next three months. Here are the things I have planned:

  • I’ll be working part-time on a realtime JavaScript web application for Feb/Mar/Apr.
  • In case you didn’t know, I am writing a book about the game Jagged Alliance 2. I’ve interviewed a whole bunch of the original dev team, and the book tells the story of how the game was made. It’s a close look at a game that focuses on the material realities of game game development, including some analysis of the game’s source code. I’m hoping to use my extra time to finish up the book!
  • Travel! I’ll be in San Francisco March 16-23, and I’ll be in NYC during IndieCade East (Feb 14-16) and probably also a bunch of other times as well.
  • I’m going to try some slightly-larger-than-normal weird internet projects, to see how that goes.

May and Beyond

Work-wise I’m pretty set for Feb/Mar/Apr, but if you’d like to be in touch about full-time work, I’m available starting May 1 and in the meantime am open to chatting with a team, interviewing, or whatever. You can contact me at my first name (dot) my last name at gmail.

So many adventures! Great job Darius. I am truly awed at all the things you do and how you share them with the community.

Too bad our paths don’t cross more often and I have to listen in from afar. Maybe we should get you to give a workshop at one of the academic conferences, FDG, ICEC or something. You are such a gold mine!

All the best
