That childhood link is almost always the reason, in my experience. But it can also be a gateway of sorts into the larger world of game music appreciation. I myself have listened to game music since the aforementioned childhood, and it used to be something I was a bit ashamed of. Because it was so odd, and because it was something that I had trouble explaining at the time. So when I went out into the larger online world of game music fans, I was always very interested in why people listened to it.
Most people begin listening to it for one of two reasons: nostalgia, or because it partially recreates the feelings of playing the game. Most stop there.
Anyways, I’m rambling. Enjoy the OST, and the taste of childhood.
