More On Age

in age

I turned 25 yesterday. As I’ve mentioned before, I am only recently finding myself comfortable with my own age. Although the question I’m always asking myself is: if I were still working at someone else’s game company, would I be old enough or experienced enough yet to be seriously considered for a job as a producer or project manager?

I’ve known full-on producers in their late 20s, so the answer is “probably yes.” And then of course it also really depends on what kind of company you’re talking about. Some companies are just more amenable to young management than others.

It’s a sobering thought, though: if my company went under (and to be clear this is ENTIRELY hypothetical), would I be able to find a position in a leadership role at a game company? I really don’t know. Of course, that’s yet another reason I should get my butt over to the IGDA Leadership Forum in November!

Hypothetically speaking, if I were running a studio that needed a producer when your hypothetical need cropped up, I’d much sooner talk to you about filling the role than a great number of the older producers I’ve met over the years.

That being said… get your butt over to the leadership forum. ;) I’ve heard nothing but great things and I hope to attend myself next year.

Congrats, you’re now officially at the age where you transition from measuring age in years to “you’re as young/old as you feel”.

Congratulations!

I’m turning 25 very soon, as well, but I don’t feel that I accomplished a lot (at least compared to people like you).

Oh, well, maybe things will change and I’m only 24 going on 25 anyway…

Hey! Happy belated birthday! Hopefully you’ve got showered with all kinds of cool tech toys!

I flip over to the age of 26th next month on the 26th. I’m still wondering if spending 4 years in the Marines was a right move. *slaps forehead*

Anyway, enjoy your fresh new year!
