End of an Era

Neil Young has left Electronic Arts after 11 years. This is big news. Take my advice and keep an eye out for whatever his next venture is.

He was one of my first game industry heroes, and he is pretty much the only one of my game industry heroes that I have yet to meet in person. The seminal ARG Majestic was his baby. I read an interview with him back during Majestic development, I guess around 2001, and I just came away from it so impressed with the guy it was really the first time I had an inkling that I wanted to be in the game industry. There are some rather legendary stories about him that you might hear if you know the right people.

Again: he’s worth keeping an eye on.

I was a HUGE fan of Majestic. I even took the time limits off the phone integration, so that I could get threatening phone calls from shady pseudo-governmental organizations at 3AM!

Holy cow. Big news indeed.

Also mentioned in the article is that Louis Castle, Lucy Bradshaw and Mike Verdu (all pretty big names themselves) are apparently joining forces to replace Neil.
