Apple just posted a job listing for a “Senior Games Developer” over on Gamasutra.

Care to share your thoughts on this?

My first reactions:
* What’s a “Games Developer”? I’ve never met anyone in the industry with that job title.
* Oh, they mean Senior Programmer, or perhaps Technical Director. Why didn’t they say so?
* Wait a minute… they’re hiring a tech guy but no artists or game designers? Are they planning to build a one-person dev team?
* Oh, wait. They’ve already got all sorts of creative types at Apple, they probably just needed something for the brilliant iPod designers to do.
* Except that UI Design is not the same thing as Game Design. While a strong sense of UI is a great skill to have, doesn’t someone need to create the core mechanics?

And then the industry implications:
* Apple is getting into games. As what… 3rd party developer for Wii? Or are they actually making their own Mac games since developers refuse to do it for them?

Ian, my initial thought is: iPhone games.
