GDCx2?

GDC is going to double in size in 2007.

According to that article, it’s mostly going to be doubling the size of the expo, attempting to become the new E3.

Please please please GDC organizers: keep the expo and the fanboys far enough away from the lectures and developers that I can pretend GDC is like it always has been.

Darius, my heart sank when I read this too. I know that CMP is hearing the cash register ringing, but imho this would be a disastrous turn for GDC to take.

On the flip side, imagine what kind of exposure the EGW and IGF will now garned.

So, E3 and GDC have apparently just swapped names and dates.

So, all we have to do is go to E3 next year, and it’ll be the same GDC it’s always been :-)

This sure does sound like it bodes ill for the GDC. However, I suppose it’s possible that this will somehow offer a nice space for people showing of games with innovative aspects. If there’s an emphasis on developer-oriented concepts but also a sense of wanting to show off for the press, that could become a nice combination.

At least for some… maybe?
