It’s actually a networking opportunity on par with the best of them, because everyone around you in that line has to kill the time somehow… make sure they do it by talking to you. After talking in line for a half-hour, you’ll have at least one awesome new acquaintance.

It also helps that when people are laidback and commiserating about a shared torment – in this case, hunger, sore knees or feet, or the long wait – the odds of talking about personal interests and stories, as opposed to industry topics, skyrockets. Which can only be a good thing. Just don’t let it descend into whining.

When I’m outside it’s not so bad but generally I can’t really hang around smokers either. It’s just something that can’t be helped.

I do have something against the twig in their hand because I have a bad reaction to it. When I breath cigarette smoke my nose gets REALLY irritated and my lungs make it clear they want to crawl off somewhere not here. >.<

In essence I have an allergy. If you have any tips I'd welcome them but I think I'm relegated to networking with people outside the smoking circles.

Good artilce Darius, I just bought my plane ticket the other day so I’m pretty stoked, this is going to be my first GDC.

Hey introduce me to some good writers/artists/animators and I’ll introduce you to some of my contacts.

Smokers are GREAT people to approach, because they’re stuck standing there with a burning twig in their hand for several minutes.
