Effective Networking (Bathe. Seriously.)

by Darius Kazemi on January 29, 2006

in networking

I’m going to make this one short and sweet.

I am willing to network with pretty much anyone. That said, I have met people at industry events and immediately did everything within my power to get the hell away from them. This is because they smelled like a sweaty old sock filled with cheese that was recently marked as the territory of a paranoid ocelot.

It saddens me that I have to give this advice. But I do. So please, if you don’t already: bathe regularly.

I would suggest following this advice even if you don’t want to network in the games industry. It’s pretty useful in any environment.

Let’s hope that all of the hygienically challenged folk also remember to brush their fangs and gorge on breath mints.
There was a fellow I used to work with, and despite his being very nice, I would abhor any interaction with him because I was certain that he was keeping a small dead animal tucked next to his tonsils.

It’s funny, but we just had a talk at Guildhall last fall where a speaker from Obsidian said exactly this. Apparently, way too many people forget about it.
